The Half Crown Pétanque Club
************************
The Half Crown Pétanque Club is based in the village of Stockton deep in the heart of Warwickshire, a very old village in a lime quarrying area which is famous for the prehistoric Ichthyosaurus that was discovered in the early 1900s, and now has pride of place in The British Museum.
The object of the Club is to promote the game of Pétanque, in accordance with the rules and regulations set out by the Fédération Internationale de Pétanque et Jue Provençal (FIPJP) and the European governing body, the Confédération Européenne de Pétanque (CEP), through affiliation with the West Midlands Pétanque Association (WMPA) and the English Pétanque Association (EPA), by providing facilities for the sport of Pétanque, coaching members in the skills of the game and holding Club competitions and social events for its members.
Pétanque (sometimes called French Boules) is a sport that is enjoyed by all the family, it can be played for fun in the garden or more seriously up to World Championship level.
Our serious playing involves participation in local (West Midlands) leagues, National Leagues, Regional Competitions and National Competitions, such as the EPA Triples Qualifiers from which representatives to play for England are selected.
We also play socially through our Saturday Club, Petanque Evenings, our Annual Beaujolais Nouveau Night and our exchanges with Pétanque clubs from France and Germany and, most importantly, we have fun!
Our facilities are extremely good, with eight international-sized terrains and the ability to host competitions of up to 24 teams very comfortably. We are attached to a thriving pub – The Crown Inn – which gives us all the facilities we need, including a top notch restaurant, bar snacks, fine wines and real ales, as well as club house facilities for our social events.
On the social side we play every Saturday from 2.00pm and welcome newcomers for come and try sessions. We can lend you some boules, instruct you in rules of the game and ensure that you have an interesting experience, whether you are 8 or 80 years old.
