Beaujolais Night a Great Success

News headlines

The 2011 Beaujolais Nouveau arrived at The Crown Inn on Thursday 17th November with 36 eager wine tasters turning up for a sample and a game of Petanque.
There were four teams of four pairs: Half Crown; Whitnash Windmill; West Haddon; and a combined team of players from Worcester, Nottingham and the Half Crown.
In unseasonably mild weather, three rounds were played, with Whitnash winning 8 games, the combined team winning 7 games, Half Crown winning six games and West Haddon 3.

Between rounds the players enjoyed a French-style buffet and accordion music from Frank Court, and at the end, after a presentation of bottles of the Beaujolais Nouveau to the best performing pair (Ian Brittain and Geraldine Gardiner from The Half Crown), everyone got down to the serious part of the evening - dancing and consuming this year's Beaujolais Nouveau - which was extremely quaffable.

Many of the players entered the spirit of the evening by dressing up French style with striped shirts and berets, but the star of the night was Lin Rendell who appeared in a sexy outfit with wig, fishnet tights and garter!
