Beaujolais Nouveau Challenge

News headlines

We had a great turnout of 21 pairs for the Annual Beaujolais Nouveau Challenge on 18th November, representing five clubs - Half Crown, Whitnash Windmill, Coventry, West Haddon and Worcester, plus Pete and Teresa Bingham from Warwick PC who guested with Whitnash Windmill.

The weather was very pleasant, the Beaujolais Nouveau was excellent and the competition went down to the wire with the final game of the competition, fought between Reg & Sheila Eburne from Coventry and Lin & Maurice Rendall from Whitnash, determining the overall result since both clubs were on 8 wins once all other games had been played. Lin & Maurice snatched a late victory to clinch it for Whitnash. Lin also deserves a mention for turning up dressed as a Parisienne 'lady'.

The final results were:

- Whitnash 9 wins
- Coventry 8 wins
- Half Crown 5 wins
- Worcester 4 wins
- West Haddon 2 wins

There were five unbeaten teams after the three rounds, the top prize of bottles of the Beaujolais Nouveau going to a pair from Worcester - Rob & Philippe, with the best points difference of +32.

The best Half Crown Pair were Bill Bentley and Mary Sturgess who were unbeaten with a +17 points difference, which put them 5th overall.
